The BMW Championship debuted in 1899 as the Western Open, making it the third oldest tournament on the PGA TOUR schedule behind the British Open and U.S. Open. BMW has sponsored the championship since 2007, when it became the penultimate event of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs and began to regularly move between the Chicagoland area and new markets across the country. In addition to our longstanding commitment to raising money and awareness for the Evans Scholars Foundation and youth caddie scholarships, we are proud to announce that we have launched a formal Sustainability Program to help further our goal of making a positive impact on the communities we visit.
We decided to begin by monitoring the 2022 BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware, to determine a baseline for our sustainability efforts and identify areas where we can improve. While we understand that we have much work to do, we are proud to share our baseline results and are eager to start the process of building a more sustainable BMW Championship.
